Highlights:
As part of the air resources mitigation for the Irish Hills Plaza commercial project located on Los Osos Valley Road, Madonna Enterprises, LLC enlisted Oasis Associates, Inc. to coordinate the design and construction of a Class I bicycle path. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was completed with the City and the Air Pollution Control District in order to design and implement the Madonna Inn Bicycle Path. Caltrans was also included in the design phase of the project as portions of the path encroached into Caltrans right-of-way property. The ultimate design and implementation of the bicycle path will connect the Madonna Road to the Dowtown core and completes a critical section of the City-wide bicycle path system detailed in the City’s Bicycle Transportation Plan.
Circumstances Unique to the Project:
- Bicycle path constructed in-lieu of paying fees
- Coordinate location of path with City of San Luis Obispo and Caltrans
- Substantial public outreach and community involvement
- Work with Caltrans to purchase “surplus land”
