Pump Station #2 / Force Main Replacement

County of San Luis Obispo (+California Coastal Commission)

Client:
Cayucos Sanitary District, Cayucos, CA

Year Completed:

Entitlements:
Minor Use Permit
Coastal Development Permit

Highlights:

The District identified the need to replace the existing 8-inch diameter sewer force main crossing below Old Creek.  While originally constructed with traditional equipment and minimal permitting, the replacement project required a horizontal bore and permits from both the County of San Luis Obispo and the California Coastal Commission. Our responsibilities included the preparation of the permit applications, environmental determination (Expanded Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration). As the District’s regulatory liaison, we coordinated with County, Coastal Commission and CA Parks and Recreation Department staff to enable construction to take place in this sensitive area.  Finally, we provided construction administration services to  oversee the bidding, construction, mitigation monitoring, and submittal of closeout documents.

Circumstances Unique to the Project:

  • Pipeline replacement in an environmentally sensitive habitat
  • Archaeologically sensitive area
  • Neighborhood outreach
